Amy H's Cowl Scarf Project

I had the pleasure of interviewing my good friend, Amy H, on her cowl scarf project.

Amy H's cowl scarves for her parents.
The left was made for her dad and the right was made for her mom.
Since the scarves were made for her parents, she made them more snug than a typical cowl scarf to provide more warmth.

How it was made:
Amy H designed her own knitting pattern to create the scarves.  She started off with 5 rows of 4 knits and 4 perls.  She then moved on to the pattern of 3 knits and 3 perls.  She maintained this pattern until the end where she finished it with another 5 rows of 4 knits and 4 perls.

To determine the diameter of the scarves, she wrapped the scarves around her parents' necks as she knitted.  Make sure you account for the stretchiness of the material when you determine the length.  Amy H made this mistake with her first cowl scarf.

To connect the ends of the scarf, she sewed them up.  The dimensions of her scarves are approximately 8 inches in length and 6 inches wide.

Merino wool yarn and 6 mm needles
Supplies used:
The total cost of her supplies was approximately $40.  She used about two to three balls of yarn and 6 mm knitting needles.  The yarn is 100% merino wool.

If you ever run into knitting issues, Amy H recommends checking out YouTube videos.  That's actually how she learned to knit!  Isn't that pretty impressive?
